Fear of Failure

“There's no such thing as a stupid question." This popular phrase has had a long history. It suggests that the quest for Knowledge includes failure, and that just because one person may know less than others they should not be afraid to ask, rather than pretend they already know. In many cases, multiple people may not know, but are too afraid to ask the "stupid question"; the one who asks the question may in fact be doing a service to those around them.

Daily, I am sure we ask ourselves many silly questions but this is all part of the process. Einstein is famous for saying "I have not failed 700 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 700 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”

The philosophy of failure is an important one in business, because inevitably we are always going to fail, however it is how we react to these failures and what we can learn from our mistakes that drive us forward and keeping us going.

What have you learnt from your failures?

It is important for you to take your failures and learn from them, don’t be afraid to ask for help. I personally don’t know whether it is a pride issue or whether it is the independence I had as an only child, I couldn’t think of anything worse than asking for help. However, I have learnt to swallow my pride and acknowledge when I am wrong. Knowing when I can’t do it myself has been crucial in learning from my mistakes and pushing past the failures.
