Today I wanted to share something a little different! The internet, especially Facebook is crowded with every man and their dog trying to promote the services they can offer and it is very difficult to stand out. I wanted to share with you a video and a philosophy.

One of my all time faviourite hobbies can be summed up by Kenneth Grahame, in The Wind in the Willows “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”  I absolutely love being in boats or behind them. However, this hobby can be bitter sweet. The acronym for boat is bring on another thousand and as an accountant hurts my ears to hear. Boating opened another opportunity “wakeboarding”. I have water skied my whole life but only learnt to Wakeboard in my teens, therefore it was a new and a challenging sport to master.

In the video, you can see me doing a flip on a wakeboard, I am not a pro by any definition of the word but I learnt a flip. That flip was FLIPPING Difficult. Every chance I got, I tried to do it, failing many times, with disappointment and anger because I couldn’t land, but I remember the first time I landed that trick, I had never been so happy in my life.

The video is titled terrific and to you that might not mean much, but to me it encompasses the fear and excitement that comes along with a challenge. When learning the new trick, I could have given up 1000 times, but I chose to keep going.

This same philosophy applies to you and your business. Taking the first step in to your own business, or risking it all to expand and grow is equally as exciting as it is frightening but having the right people around you makes all the difference. It is important to be persistent and to keep moving forward.

When I learnt to do the flip on the Wakeboard, I had friends and family to cheer me on and encourage me. In business, you need these too, not only that but having good mentors and a good accountant can keep you on track and continue to motivate you.
